ODDFELLOWS SPORTS AT TARADALE.

The annual fete in connection with the Loyal Meanee Lodg-c of Oddfellows came oii' at Taradale yesterday in a spacious paddock (part of the Roscncath estate) Ir.ndly lent by Mr A. McCartney for the ' occasion. There was a large attendance, principally from town. The Napier Garrison Band was present, and played at intervals during the day, contributing , in no small degree to the general enjoyment. Amusements in the shape of swings, quoits, &c, were provided, and every one seemed to enjoy themselves. The'first heat (100 yards) of the jn.itch between Delancy and Aggers, for C2o a side, was run, Delaney winning by about a yard. The ground was very heavy, and consequently" the competitors agreed to defer running the other two heats (200 and 300 yards) till Wednesday, when the match will be completed on the recreation ground. The programme of sports was then gone through .spiritedly, the several events were well contested, and Mr W. Miller as judge, and MrM'Caitucy as starter, gave every satisfaction to both competitors and the public. We cannot, however, compliment the committee on tlic efficiency of tlic general arrangements, the provision made for the course for the miming contests being simply wretched, causing , great dissatisfaction. The following arc the several events : —• Maiden Race, 100 yards.—Delancy, 1 ; A. Howe, 2 ; L. Caiitlc, •". S. Young, J. Watcrworth, A. Allen, 11. Jeffares, also started. Won easily. Hop, Step, and Jump.—Lewis, 10 feet -1 inches, 1 ; George (native), 2. W. Oliver, M. Barry, and A. Allen also competed. Vaulting with the Pole. —Lewis, 8 feet a iuches, 1; A. Allen, 2. J. Parker, T. Johnson, and R. Jeffares also vaulted. Running High Jump.—Lewis, ."> feet, 1 ; M'Demiott, 2. R. Willis, Klcebcr, P. J. Barry, and C. G. Smyth also jumped. Taradale Handicap, first heat, 100 yards.—A. C. Norris, scratch, 1 ; J. Aggers, scratch, 2. S. Young, 7 yards, and W. Mason, 13 yards, also started. Won by a yard. Taradale Handicap, second heat, l">0 yards.—A. Howe, 13 yards, 1 ; T, Murphy, scratch, 2. W. Simpson, 3 yards, also ran. A close finish between the three. Girls' Race (for girls under 14 years).— Sissic Gebbie, 1 ; Diily Barry, 2. Eight others ran.

Boys' Race.—C. Burss, 1; F. Lorigan, 2. Fifteen other juveniles of various ages and heights competed. TaradalcHandicap (final heat), 100 yards. — J. Aggers, scratch, 1; T. Murphy, scratch, 2; A. Howe, lo yards, '6. A. C. Norris, scratch, also started. This heat resulted in a splendid race. About thirty yards from home Norris had obtained a lead of about a yard, -with Aggers second, and Murphythird close up, when by some means Norris ■was jostled and fell, and thus lostliis chance of the race, which at that timohe appeared certain of winning. Aggers, having to jump over Norris, gave Murphy an opportunity of assuming the lead, of which the latter took advantage, but stopped before reaching the tape, and Aggers, putting on a spurt, passed him and won on the post. Norris lodged a portcst against Aggers, alleging that the latter jostled him, and threw him out of the race, and, after hearing evidence, the committee considered the protest sustained, and disqualified Aggers, awarding the first jirize to JMurplry, and the second to Howe.

One Mile (Handicap).—M. M'Dermott, GO yards, 1; A. Fulford, scratch, 2. J. Moloney, 60 yards, 3. "W. Mason, 90 yards; A. Allen, oO yards ; and C. Brauseh, 50 yards, also ran. M'Dermott, soon after the start, took the lead, and was never collared, winning by about ten yards from Eulford, who uame up splendidly on the last lap. Sack Race. — O'Shaughncssy, 1; "W, Simpson, 2. Lewis and T. Johnson also competed. Running Long Jump.—John Murphy, 1(3 feet (i inches, 1 ; Lewis, 2. Burke, M. Bany, and McCarthy, also jumped. Throwing- the Hammer.—John Murphy, 1. There "were several other competitors. Throw ing the Cricket Ball. —T. Jeffares, 1. W. Simpson, J. James, A. Peebles, A. Allen, W. Oliver, and J. Murphy, also threw. An impromptu totalisator was instituted by some amateur •' sports," and was liberally patronised, sonic of the dividends being largo ones. Several amateur "books" were present, avlio apparently did a fair amount of business, but wo hear that one was struck rather hca\ily.
