This day. The Herald says that the Hon. George McLean proceeds to England in March, and Avill be absent about six months. It is stated that the Otago LaAV Society intend holding a meeting to consider Judge Gillies' reflection on Mr Hesketh. At the half-yearly meeting of the Colonial Bank yesterday the report of the directors, recommending a dividend of seven per cent., was adopted. The Hon. George McLean Avas in the chair. The proceedings were of the ordinary nature. Mr R. AVilson has been elected to the directorate of the Coffee Palace. The operations for the year s'uoav an excess of income over expenditure of £343, but the preliminary expenses, depreciation, kc, absorb so much that there is a balance of £150 to the debt side. The surety has consequently had to pay the full amount of his guarantee, viz., £200. The Customs revenue for the month is £35,722, Gs 7d. The folloAA-ing are the vital statistics for January: —Births, 167; deaths, G4 ; marriages, 40.
