The official declaration for the Peninsula election took place at noon to-day, Avhen the returning officer declared Mr Lamaoh elected to fill the vacancy, the numbers being the same as previously announced. Bishop Moran admitted that he did not expect to be elected. His object in coming fonvard Avas to call attention to the injustice done to Catholics on the education question and to keep Mr Donnelly out. He regretted that no steps had been taken by Mr Laniach AA-ith regard to the untrue statement issued respecting his (the Bishop's) candidature, and, in conclusion, said that, as to choice of language and election epithets, Mr Laniach stood head and shoulders above the other men, and would doubtless represent the electors to their heart's content.
