This day. Mr Larnach, C.M.G., the ncAA-ly-electcd M.H.R. for the Peninsula., Avas thrown out of Ids buggy AA'hile returning home last night, and Avas seriously injured, although not sufficiently to pre vent him from attending the official declaration of the poll for the Peninsula to-day. At the City Council last night Mr Ross stilted that there Avas iioav tAventy-one feet of Avatcr on the bar at the heads. James Baxter, an ex-sergeant of police, was thrOAA-n from his horse last night, and remained unconscious till this morning. The information against Mr Proudfoot, proprietor of the city traimvays, for running steam motors which arc a nuisance, was argued at considerable length yesterday, and Mr Carcw, R.M., reserved his judgment. The lad AVhite, who stabbed another named Charuock in a butcher's shop at Port Chalmers, has been committed for trial. The Star last night contained the folloAVing paragraph : — On dit that the sequel of the election proceedings Avas that a wcllknown M.H.R. and a leading member of the successful candidate's committee alloAved their political feelings to so over-master them as to endeavor to settle their difference by a resort to physical force. Rumor adds that the Opposition cause again suffered material damage, Avhich will very likely prevent its champion putting in an appearance iv public for a day or two. A man named Thos. Dobbic AA-as charged at the Police Court yesterday Avith stealing a scAving machine, the property of Hugo AVerthcim. The case for the prosecution was that Dobbic, along Avith a man named ForshaAV, avlio is iioav serving a sentence of six months on a similar charge, Avent to various persons who had machines himlon terms, and representing himself as being sent from AVertheim's shop, took the machines aAvay and disposed of them. Dobbic was committed for trial, bail being alloAved in his own recognisance of £600, and tAA-o sureties of £300 each.
