This day. A four-roomed cottage at Kuikorni, owned and occupied by Mr Whale, captain of the local Fire Brigade, has been totally destroyed by tire. The house was insured for £2*30 in the Victoria office. Bishop Moran's political meeting last night was very enthusiastic and orderly. He only spoke for half-an-hour, and principally on the education question. A considerable number of questions were answered. The Bishop declared himself strongly in favor of a land tax. a?id lie would nvike the land bear the greater prop-jrtk':i of the burdens of the State. A vote of confidence was carried. Referring to the bonn Jidcs of Moran's candidature, the Tablet says:— ''As some people entertain a, doubt whether Bishop Moran is in earnest, we are authorised to say that if the electors of the Peninsula will do him the honor of returning him to Parliament he will be found in his place there, and that he will there and elsewerc devote his best energies to promote their interests.'' The ship Dunedin, which sails to-day for London, takes 8271 carcases of mutton, almost the whole of which arc shipped by the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, principally from their Parcora and Totara estates.
