WAIROA.
(FROM ODE OWN CORRESPONDENT.) December 97. On Thursday last two young lads were engaged in the perilous operation of " getting in horeep,'' when one of them—a son of Mr George Flint —was thrown and sustained a fracture of both bones of the forearm. The trustees of the Mechanics' Institute met on the 21st to decide what steps are to be taken to finish the building. It was decided to ask Messrs Dolbel Bros, if tbe estateof B. Gardiner, jun., will finish it. A sum of £5 was voted towards the expense of getting a band up from Napier for the races and ball on the lltb. The Harbor Board met on the 20th to consider Mr Sauncler's report on the works necessary to improve the navigation of tbe upper reaches of the Wairoa river, by snagging at two different point?, and blasting away a papa reef in another, place (near Te Kapu). The tenders are out now, aud due on the 6th of Jenuary. It was decided to apply to the Government for an extension of the snagging vote by £500. It was also decided to apply to tbe "Council for funds under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act to build the Frasertown wharves. Mr Stewart, in forwarding his receipt for £50 (fee for inspection of harbor entrance), said he did not expect to be paid till the Board got funds from the Government.
