CORRESPONDENCE.
CHARGES FOR PUBLIC PERFORMANCES. [To the Editor of the Dail. Teleouaph.] Sir,*— It is I tbink necessary to call attention to the practice of all managers of public.performances in Napier to charge at least 50 per cent, more than is the rule in other towns. I have before me a Wellington paper notifying the first appearance of tbe Tambour-Major company—Dress circle ss, stalls 3s, pit 2s, and family tickets 4s each. In Napier the charge wa9 7s Gd for dress circle, and 6s for family ticket?. This cannot be accounted for by the smallness of the audiences here, as all good performances are much better supported here than iv Wellington. This opera company were not by any means singular in this respect — whether it is a lecturer, theatrical troupe, or a performance of any otfeer kind we are always charged higher than tbe Wellington and Auckland people. It may be a .id that our Theatre is Dot so commodious, but it cannot be -aid that the support accorded to companies in Wellington is more than that given tbem in Napier. Why should we pay 7s 6d while Wellington people pay 5s for the same entertainment?—l am, &c, F. Sutton. December 27, 1882.
