CORRESPONDENCE.
THE NAPIER HOSPITAL AND THE GOVERNMENT. [To the Editor of the Daily Telegeaph.] Bib,—l canuot quite agree with your leader to-day on the Napier Hospital and the position that the Government now assumes on the question. It is quite true that the Hospital Committee managed to save £1500 up to the 31st of March last, which has since been paid out in providing for the maintenance of the Hospital for the current year. The Government now says that it will provide for this year the whole cost of maintenance, and will contribute £1 for £l up to £1500 for additione. The proposals -made by the Committee to the Government were that they should each provide £3000, the estimated cost of additions and maintenance for the year, the Committee depending upou getting back their £1500, and using that as a portion of their contribution. You will, I think, ccc that the Committee always contemplated raising £1500 this year, so that, as the matter stands, they get exactly what they asked for, but it is uot quite in the same shape as originally proposed. There is a difference in the form of the grant, but it is only in appearance.—l am, &c., F. Sutton.
