SPORTING NOTES.

[By Spbingfield ] The Jockey Club's Boxing Day meeeting takes place on Tuesday, and althongh the fields will not be large, still I hope to see some close contest?. The first event for decision is the Christmas Handicap, which will be contested by four runners, of whom I expert Mischief, despite her heavy weight, 9.*t 121b., will pass the judges chair first, with Never Mfsa in close attendance. The Maiden is the next race, when the largest field of the day will run. This is the most difficult race to pick the winner of, as we have eten so little of the candidates in public. Kuni, I think, will just about win, whilst her immediate attendants should be Leonata and Te Ata. The Hurdle Race comes next, with but only three horses colors on the card, of whom A.G should win. The big race is the next event, for which there are only four horses left in. I hope the Jockey Club will see the folly of trying to introduce two miles and a half handicap into their prograramep. Two miles or two miles and a quarter is quite far enough to asts horses to gallop under handicap weights. Of the four runners I fancy Wilberforce will stay the longest, and as Martin has him in good trim I think he will be returned the winner. The other events comprise a Hack Bace and Consolation Handicap, which will no doubt produce good fields and close conteete.
