WELLINGTON.

October 30

A fire occurred near John .onville on Saturday morning, which resulted in the destruction of a four-roomed bouse occupied by Mr Robert August, who carries on the business of a charcoal burner, and owned by Mr William Clapham, hotelkeeper, Ngahauranga. It appears that at 6 o'clock Mr August left the place for the purpose of loading a dray with charcoal at some distance from his residence, and had just reached the vehicle when he observed that his house was on fire. He at once retraced his steps, and endeavored, with the assistance of some friends, to subdue the flames, but they had gained too firm a hold on the building, and in less than half-an-hour it was razed to the ground. The house was insured, but the amount has not transpired.
