MASTERTON.

October 10. The Masterton Town Hall was destroyed by fire at 1.30 this morning. The hall was in the occupation of the Maoris till 1 o'clock. The value of the building was £1000, aDd it was insured in the South British oflice for £750. The fire brigade worked well, saving the County and Government buildings adjacent. The ball burnt very rapidly. J?mes Brown, the custodian, saved bis wifeand children, who were sleeping in the building, but bis furniture and effects were destroyed. Hs estimates bis loss at £300, which is uninsured. The hall is the property of the Town Lands Trust.
