DUNEDIN.
December 27. Williamson opened in " Struck Oil " to an immense house last night, the Princess Theatre being crowded to the doors. Money was refused for all parts. The Zulu war diorama also had an immense audience. A fire at Macandrew's Bay en Friday night destroyed a stable and other outbuildings belonging to Mr Macandrew M.H.R. The property was insured in the Standard office for £200, but the additional loss amounts to £100. A young man named McVickers was knocked down by a tram car on Saturday night, and was badly hurt, but not dangerously. The driver was in no way to blame. Over 5,000 persons travelled on the Palmerston and Clinton sections yesterday, including 250 excursionists to the Lakes. All the sports and steamer excursions yesterday were well patronised. The weather was glorious. To-day is observed as a general holiday, but it is raining. (For continuation of news see fourthpageJ)
