CHRISTCHURCH.

December 27. Richard Hestler, aged 70, and formerly handicapper to the Canterbury Jockey Club, was found dead in a dining room in Norton's House at 11 o'clock on Sunday morning. The deceased took two cups cf coffee at 8.30, and was not seen again till he was found dead. The cause of death is not known. The annual exhibition of the Canterbury Society of Art was opened on Saturday in tbe boy's high school. A large number of paintings were shown, principally water colors, which were an improvement on the previous exhibition.
