OAMARU.
August 31. When the man Augustus, charged with brutally ill-treating his wife, came up for sentence yesterday, Mr Watt, R.M., said, since the case was last before the Court, the matter had been brought under the notice of the Government, and he had been called upon to make a full report. He would send the depositions and his summing up to Wellington next day, and in the meantime allow the case to stand where it is. Sentence was deferred until Wednesday, the 7th September.
