Mr M'Caughan, the member for Riverton, has decided not to resign his seat in the House, and addresses his constituents before tbe session. Mr Hirst, the member for Wallace, also addresses bis constituents shortly
The census returns for Invercargill shows the population to be—Males 2375, females 2222, total 4597, being an increase of 836. In the suburbs _ the population (approximate) is 3214; Riverton, 1191, of whom 113 are Chinamen ; outside the town boundary, 200 ; and Orapuki and round the hill, 917, of whom 368 are Chinamen.
