A fire occurred in Dornwell's stables this morning, but it was promptly extinguished. The place was insured in the Transatlantic office for £100.
The Oity:Councii has adopted in globo the recommendations of the retrenchment committee, because one councillor showed such obstructive tendencies. A, saving is now effected to the amount of £5,600 yearly. The Cromwell Company's crushing for the month amounts 451 ounces of gold from 435 tons of stone.
The balance-sheet of Guthrie and Larnach's New Zealand Timber and Wood Company has been published. In addition to £10,000 carried to profit and loss it shows a loss of £2800.
Mr James Fulton, M.H.R., for Taieri, addressed his constituents at Mosgiel last night. There was a good attendance and he was well received. He spoke generally in support of the policy of the present Government, and advocated the property tax, the exemption being brought down to £100. He received a vote of confidence.
