MADAME WILMOT AND THE EDITOR OF THE DAILY TELEGRAPH.

Notoriety, at all hazards, is the aim of some people, and Madame Lotti Wilmot appears to he one of that number. Coming out of the Post Office this morning in company with Mr J. Leonard, Mr Price, the editor of this paper, was confronted by Madame Wilmot. The lady was armed with a riding whip, and with that instrument struck at Mr Price, who, raising his aim, warded off the blow. Exclaiming " that is for your insult last Monday," Madame Wilmot crossed the road to the Clarendon Hotel. The insult, we presume, was contained in our notice of Madame's lecture last Monday on " The Devil," in which we stated that it was " valueless and very uninteresting." The editor of this paper did not think the lecture worth going to, but as he caused to be published the opinion of his reporter he is prepared to think that that gentleman is quite capable of forming a judgment upon the subject. Considering all things Madame Wilmot has been very leniently dealt with by the press of this town ; but if Bhe herself is under the impression that favorable notices of her lectures require the persuasiveness of the horsewhip, she will very soon discover that newspapers are not coerced by such means, and that, in spite of an angry woman, reporters will write the truth.
