At the banquet to the Australian Cricketers on Saturday night, about sixty gentlemen were present. Mr E. C. J. Stevens, M.H.R., the President of the Cricket Association, in the chair. Mr Murdoch, in replying to the toast of the evening, spoke warmly of the great hospitality the Australians received in New Zealand. He said the Canterbury defeated the first Australian team on its merits. He hoped the present match would be played out on its merits, and the Australians have ample vengeance, and he really thought they were in for it. Tbe banquet was a great success throughout.
