TAURANGA, Tuesday. Owing to the detention of the s.s. 'Rowena' at Auckland, a special mail is to be despatched overland via the Thames, to catch the San Francisco mail. No damage worth relating oceuned here during tho ireeut fearful gale. Circulars have been issued to the lespectivo settlements by tho chief Hon Tiipaea, convening a meeting on next Monday at Tewaii, foi discussion preparatory to opening the Kainui distnot tor gold prospecting purposes.
