A DEFENCE OF THE ARMED CONSTABULARY.
To the Editor : Sir,— Your morning oontemporary of lost Friday tdb a suspicion! tale of Armed Constabulary mon stationed near the East Capo having employed Maori women to do Armed Constabulary work. Will that journal kindly furnish further and more explicit dotaita? Or is the public to infer that the story in merely one of those yarns wuich arc spun bore with the view of making political capital? The attempt to connect the proaont Ministry with blunders beforo tho Fox-Vo«el Ministry took office, at the Thames, when Mr. Stafford was Premier, has opeued some people's eyes, and teaches us to receive with groat caution many statements that ars published in Wyndham-street. Reverting to the Armed Constabulary, I, for one, don't believe a word of tat tal» referred to above, I* »»y I"
atated, with perfect truth, that as regards iliacipliue, good conduct and efficiency, our Armed Constabulary compares favourably with any armed force in the world ; and that the colony is erectly indebted to Sir Donald McLean for having instituted that useful force.— lam, &c, Vmitas.
