KENNEDY'S BAY GOLDFIELD.

Our correspondent writes : — " I send you an extraot from a letter received from one of the many prospectors in this portion <>f the field, and think the suggestions contained in it ■worthy of the attention of his Honor the Superintendent and his Executive :—' Dear ,1 have, as you know, heen several weeks in this district:, and am well pleased with the indications of the gold-producing qualities of the country. 1 feel certain that, at no distant date, it will reveal a deposit of rich alluvial gold that may even put the richest portions of the Tokatea or the Thames into the shade ; but the difficulty of getting supplies to Waikoromiko and its surroundings is a serious drawback to anything like permanent development, and prevents many 'good fellows from remaining as long as they otherwise would if aome of the obstacles and inconveniences at present to be contended against were removed. Do what you can in urging upon the proper authorities the necessity of fanning tracks from the Saddle to the Bay. Something might al«o he done in the way of sending some experienced miner to visit the whole of the district and report thereon, - As the Provincial Government are the largest ownera of land here, it would be to their benefit if a thorough examination were made of the place and a report published for general information. There are plenty of men in the township willing and able to undertake the duties.' I hope the Government will take action, and carry out the views expressed in the above extract. At the beginning of the year the extensive working on the Kapanga mine, the re-starting of works on the beach, the vigorous prosecution of Bennett's Battery, the erection of Government buildings, and other heavy undertakings in the Tokatea district, will give an increased activity to those portions of the Uoromandel district."
