REEFTON. Wednesday, The lock-up is crowded with prisoners. There is only one cell (6ft. by 14f fe. ) which contains, huddled together, three persons for larceny, two on suspicion for wilful murder, two for shooting with intent, three for drunkenness, three debtors. Warrants out for the ajresb of three more have been deferred on account of the want of room.

DUNEDIN. Wednesday. A Provincial Government Gazette has been published, containing advertisements inviting tonders for tho extension of tha Bluff whatf. Payment to be made in land. The fortnight's crushing for the Heart of Oak, Carrick range, has yielded 2670z. of gold from 212 tons of atone. The Freehold olaim, Shag Valley, is being worked with good prospects. While towing the whalo yesterday from Waikouaiti to Otago heads, two more rose near the boats. One was captured. It is estimated to yield eight tuns of oil. B. 0. Evatt-wbo was arrested at Melbourne on a charge of embezzling £200 from his employers, Murray, Roberts, and Co. — was committed for trial to-day. Steam was got up ia one of the locomotives on the Port Chalmers railway yesterday, and with about thirty gentlemen on it was run through the tunnel. Crowds received it at the other side with enthusiastic cheers.
