The publication of the Government agricultural returns has influenced favourably the market for breadatuffs, values having firmed considerably since. To our mind, however, the information that our yield of wheat has amounted this season to 450 >,795bu9helg is of a reassuring charac tei, the probability, if not certainty, of a gioiter deficiency having been'so frequent a topic of conversation for some time past. Flour baa to-day been somewhat stiffer ; buyers of parcels have offered £15 10s for a hundred tou3 (in a line without being responded to, and there are no sellers of trade lots or bakers' parcels under £16. Wheat is Also a good deal run nfter. Wo hear of a parcel of about 3,000 bushels Western districts which, after changing hands, was immediately afterwards re-sold ; 6s 6d or thereabouts is stated to ha/c been obtained. Maize is still vr-ry slow ; a few parcels have been disposed of at 3s 2d. Candles are firm, though there is not much doing, the stiffness of holders preventing sales from being carried through ; for Brandon's, llsd is required. Woolpacks are very salable at ss. Cornsacks present a rising tendency j we have not, however, yet heard of any sales over 135." Adelaide. — A telegram of May 2J reports : — " Wheat is dull at 5s 9d. The Victorian deficiency is still estimated at 25,000 tons. Country flour, £12 15s ; town, £14. The Victorian statistics have depressed breadstuffs." — A telegram of May 22 reports:— "Wheat is dropping. An inferior sample sold at 5s s£d ; good samples are not worth more than 5s Sd. Flour, from £12 10s to £14."
