WELLINGTON. Wednesday. In the Appeal Court, Mr. Whitaker concluded his reply to-day, The Court took time to consider its judgment. The Provincial Council yesterday refused to raise the police pay a shilling a day. This morning all the police refused to go to duty except the two sergeants in oharge of the depOt. The Government are in communication with the men. The Press have not been informed of the result. The Council sat thirteon hours on the Education Bill. The proposed tax. was obstructively opposed. It \va9 carried by a small majority.
HOKITIKA. Wednesday . The 8.3. ' Raugitoto ' has sailed for Northern ports.
JS T EW PLYMOUTH. Wednesday. A flax shore at Opunake bas baen burned. The ' Go-ahead ' is to have new boilers.
PICTON. Wednesday. A fire occurred here this morning by which Clarkes hotel was totally destroyed. The fire was discovered in the hotel at 1 a.m., and is supposed to be accidental. Everything in the house was consumed. The damage sustained is £2,308. The hotel was insured in tho Victoria for a>G6O.
BLUFF. Wednesday. The s.s. 'Alhambra will sail for Melbourne at 3 o'clock to-morrow.
