WAIUKU: VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The members of the No. 1 Company of Waiuku Rifle Volunteers assembled oh their parade ground, Waiuku, at 10.30 on Friday, May 24. Through the kindness of Major Lusk the men were allowed to drill for two consecutive days, the time chus put' in counting as three monthly inspections and three company parades, thus relieving the \ men from attenddnee during the winter mouths. The company inusteral in good force, and were subjected to a severe drill until twelve o'clock, when they formed iv line and fired the usual feu de joio, after which they were marched past and dismissed for half an hour for refreshments, At the expiration of that time they again tell iv, aud were marched to the butts, Wind&or Park, where the match with the Forest .Rifle Hangers was going on. Half an hour was then given to the shooters for luncheon, after which the whole company was paraded, and Mtjor Lusk subjected the .inns to a seveie inspection. Major Lusk, in presenting the champion belt, which he had given for competition by the Volunteers of the distuct commanded by him, said that it was his pleasing duty that day to present one of the members of the No. 1 Company Waiuku l\iuo Volunteers with the champion belt, lie was glad that the winning of tho belt had fallen to an old Volunteer, ono who had -won prizes on many occasions. He then called Corporal H. Williams to the front, aud piesented the belt to him, and called for three cheers for the successful competitor, which were heartily given. A like honour was paid to Major Lusk. Lieutenant Heuessey and .Sergeant' Major Mowbray then took charge of tho men, aud pat them through a heavy skirmishing drill. Iv the rifle match the Forest Rangera were tho victors by 27 points, as will be seen by the following scores : — Waiuku Bifle Volunteers, No. 1 Company : Captain Ilamlin, 4G ; Ensign King, 34 ; Henry Williams, 46 j T. Cardon, 51 ; T. Codlin, 35 ; W. Codlin, 44 : grand total, 250.— Forest Eillo Hangers: Corporal J. Crawford, 47 ; Major Lusk, 39 ; Lieutenant Cnspe, 41 ; J. JJowden, 51 j J. Mellsop (substitute), 58; J. Brown, 47: total, 283. The firing was at 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards. — On Saturday the mea of No. 1 Company were again assembled in charge of Captain Haralin, Lieutenant Henessey, and Ensign King. Seveial company oiders were read, and the following promotions made :—: — Corporal Bennett to bo sergeant j Privates J. Chandler, H. Williams, and \V. Watts to be corporals. The company was then drilled for four hours, after which they were told that they would not be required until the second Saturday in September. — [Correspondent.]
