WHANGAREI.

Warkora, December 2. —The annual soiree at Wareora was this year a great success. The church was completely crowded, and about eighty horses were counted outside the building. The trays, which were double, were provided by Mr«. Frater and Mrs. Whitelaw, and were abundantly covered with the viands usual at such entertainments. —The Rev. John Wallace, who presided, delivered an address, alluding, among other things, to the great improvement that had resulted from the labours of Mr. Carter in the day-school He trusted soon to see a Sunday school organised among them. The choir theft gave "Go when the Morning Shineth." Dr. Peiston favoured the andienco with hii popular reading on "Love," and afterwards with a recitation from Byron. Mr. Rowlaiuls, teacher of the Whangaroi day-school, delivered "Pitt's Speech," and recited " Lord Ullin's Daughter" iv a very tasteful manuery. . Mr. Falls sang "The Irish Emigrant, " and locited " itoderick Dhu." The choir, at intervals, gavo "The Red-Cross Knight," "See our Oars with Feathered Spray," "Haiti Smiling; Morn," and "The Rural Nook." Mr. Ryan ijave a reading, entitled "Rory O'More's Present to the Priest," and sans* the popular melody, " Pulling Bard againat the Stream." Mr. Hoey sang, "Jenny's Bawbee ;" Mr. Ramsay, "Jonea's Sister;" Messrs. Ryan, Kcyte, and Simpson, "Dame Burden. " Mr. Redfern recited " The Newcastle Apothecary," and "Hodge and the Vicar."—On the motion of Mr. Wallace, » vote of thanks was given to the volunteer*. —Dr. Perston moved a vote of thanks to tht ladies; and Mr. Frater, in replying for tht lading, in * neat and appropriate speech, enlarged on the duty of family pray«r both with aud for them, introducing the subject of "Faith, Hope, and Charity."—Much credit is due to Mr. T. Ramsay, Mr. Ryan, Miss Mercer, Miss Christy, and Messrs. R. Reyburn, Simpson, Keyte, and Hoey, who came from Whangarei to assist the local singers. —[Correspondent. 1
