Sentenced to three months' imprisonment. — December 2 : A Court of Inquiry on the wreck of the 'Ahuriri has returned McKinnon's certificate, »9 the rock is not marked on the charts. The Court censured him, how* * ever, for having sluice valves between tho •■ compartments open, thus defeating the object ■ of watertight compartments. Nelson. — December 2 : A special jury case — the owners of the steamer 'Murray* v. Edwards and Co., owners of the ' Charles Edwards,'for collision at Westporfc. I Whanuanui. — Tbe Whanganui bridge > was opened by his Excellency the Governer, and was celebrated by a great Volunteer display and general rejoicings. Lady Bowtn was present. Addresses — Europ«an and native— were presented, and the proceedings concluded with a ball. His Excellency held a levee, at which the <£litd of Whanganui presented themselves in goodly number*, and Lady Bowen received the lady residents. The cost of the bridge was £30,000.
