A series of tanks and a large dam supply the machine with water. The machine is to crush for the public as well as for the company, . and will commence in a day or two on a 30-ton parcel from Nolan's No. 1 mine. Since Captain Higgins took charge fa great deal of work hia been done in the Brighton mine. A tunnel has bean driven 400 feet below the level of the machine; and' drives opened at a higher level to teat the ranges on .either hand. At present work is confined to following and testing two large leaders that were opened by the Australasian Company, and to sinking a Bhaft in the creek, about one hundred yards above the battery. Gtband Trunk. —Th© old mine, that in its time has absorbed nb trifling amount of public money, is again in occupation, a party of minera'-rights men who knew the ground having taken it up some- two months since, and then commenced driving an adit to drain the -water from the shaft workings. The adit was opened ,on the Karaka Creek side of the -, ranges, and is expected to tap the water, in .the course of a week or ao. t There is avet^r probability of the undertaking proving remunerative, for it is well known that the Grand T/unk lode did turn out some first-olaas stone, and, 'if a better system of drainage than that of lifting water '225ft. had been provided, it would have paid well for working. An adit was just what was wanted, and I am surprised that this idea was not entertained and oarried out by the original shareholders. Bendigo Independent. ~- The tributeri are making excellent headway in {the higher levels, and are also far advanced with a lowlevel tunnel that will command further backs 60ft. high on the leader. The latter is the continuation of that vein which was worked to such" advantage in the El Dorado mine, but singulkr to say was not traced into the Bendigo Independent until the tributers took the ground up. It strikes to enter | the Alburnia Company's mine, and may possibly be found to be part of the Alburnia specimen leader, or the Point-in-View lode.. The tributers are breaking out good atone, aud have 30 tons of general stuff in paddock, aud over 1001b. of specimens in another place. • Green Harp, Coboma^del. — lOOoz. \ 16dwt. of ineltod gold fiom this mine were ' lodged to-day in the Bank of New Zealand, j Kpranvi Crekk Tribute. — The tribnters j cleaned up to-day, after crushing for a fortnight with five head at the Kuranui machine. They obtained the handsome amount of t 93oz. 16dwt, of melted, gold. Sib Walter Scott. — The company had a partial cleaning up to-day, and obtained 16oz. ldwt. of gold.— [Cerrespomdent.]
i Coromandei., Ootober 3. Jones ani party, who have been a long time prospecting on Murphy's Hill.Kapanga, have struck a nioo leader, from which they arc now taking yery good specimens, very similar to those that 'used r to be got from the old Alpha and Omega on the same range. I understand a lease of 16 acres' has been taken up, extending from the New Zealand Company's battery to the Conqnorinu Hero beundary, and a company called tire Murphy's Hill Goldmining Company has now been formed. Mr. MacCorraick, one of the shareholders, has taken with him to Auckland some of, the sfconafl, which are really goad. The ijion are now employed stoping out the leader, ami k crushing will shortly take place. — [Coi respondent.] A list of forfeited shares in the Moanataiari Union is published in our advertising columns.
