ALEXANDRA : SCHOOL MATTERS.

Mr. Shanaghan, our schoolmaster here, who has conducted the school for some time past with every satisfaction to the parents of the children, ia, I hear, likely to lose the Government aid, as our School Committee wish for a certificated teacher. As all the children are very young attending the school we do not require a M.A., or any very talented man. Mr. S. having broken up his home at Kihikihi, to start a school here, a very strong feeling is felt on the part of those having children in his charge that he should be continued in his situation ; and the following request has been sent to him: — "To Mr. J. P. Shanaghan. Alexandria, September 22, IS7I. — We, the undersigned parents of children attending your school, are well satisfied with the progress your pupils have made under your care and tuition, and we therefore request that you will still continue to carry on the school. — (Signed) Thomas Finch, J. 8.. Hvitton, 3. Curley, Jesse Sage, H. Turner, Henry H. Eeynolds, John Wilson, John Burns, Henry Asmus." As these signatures represent nearly all the pupils, it is to be hoped the School Committee will still retain Mr. Shanaghan's services, as none of them but two have any children for school, one of whom has signed the requisition, and the other no doubt would have done the same had he been asked. — [Correspondent.]
