RAGLAN : IMPORTANT NATIVE NEWS.
The natives here held a meeting yesterday aneat the King's peace-making overtures, and, as a result, Hone te One, Wiremu Paten©, and Te Wheoro (the two latter of whom, i with Mr. A. Barton, arrived from Waipa last night) are to proceed immediately to Kawhia to see the King, and to inquire what hia views and intentions really are. — Immense numbers of sea-fowl (mostly whalebirds) have perished here during the late gales. Some of them have been found miles inland ; the township was covered with them, and thousands strewed the beach for two or three miles north of this port. I hear that the carcases of numbers of sheep and cattle have come on shore south of this harbour, and that the natives have picked up quantities of candles and other small things. A wreck would not be surprising after the weather we have had. — [Correspondent.]
