RAGLAN : NATIVE MATTERS.

In native matters there is nothing to report, except that we have had numbers of Hauhau natives (Ngatimaniapoto) over from Kawhia, with droves of pigs. Their advent, in conjunction with the fact that others are coming over here this week, looks as if the proceedings of the Hon. the Native Minister in the Waipa were producing a return of confidence in the native mind. — I mentioned some weeks ago that Captain Johnstone was about establishing a cope-walk. Some o£ the stores here hare been supplied. ,by him, and the article is immeasurably superior to the rope, mostly made of tow, which We have been in the habit of importing from Auckland. — Mr. Henry C-. Young, the lessee of the Te Akau block, between Raglan and Port Waikato, was here a day last week. I did not hear what he proposes to do, but I understand the ' Flora, ' which arrived here yesterday, bas brought down 50 bags of grass-seed for him.— The natives her* say that the King has ordered that all white men crossing his ! aukati shall be shot. Another report from the I same source is that Mr. John White has been appointed guardian of the pakeha " aukati" at Alexandra. Sergeant Skene, of the Armed Constabulary, who has been in charge here for some time, has got the route for Hamilton. By-the-by, as the King's boundary line in this direction is the Raglan river, and as our good town is on the south side of the harbour, Tawhiao's latest proclamation authorises his loyal subjects to make game of the Raglanites. — I under«tand that the best route over the mountain, hence to Waipa, which Major Heaply has been able to find, is one which turns off from the present road near Mr. Robertsons property, following that gentleman's line up the Mangaohahu Valley, and coming out on the Waipa below (north of) Karakaviki. — [Correspondent. ]
