POLICE COURT.— Monday. [Before James O'Neill James Baber, Esqs., J.P.s.]

Drunkenness. — Thomas McManus and James Kictney pleaded guilty to a second offence of this nature, and wei c fined 10s. and costs, or to be imprisoned 4S hours. — William Adie was also charged with this offence. Being on bail he did not appear, and his bail was declared forfeited. Vagea cy. — JolmMeikles'w as charged with a breach of the Vagrant Act, 18G6, by having no lawful means or insufficient lawful means of support. — Pleaded not guilty, — Constable George Wadinan was called to prove the charge. — Sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. Desertion prom H.M. Service.— George Weeks was charged by constable Coghlan with being a deserter from H.M. 'Phcel-e.' He pleaded guilty. — On the application of Mr. Naughton the prisoner was remanded for one week. Alleged Larceny. — John Taekbury was charged by George H Evans with having stolen a blanket, value Bs. 6d., from his dwelling- ouse in Queen street, on the 29th ultimo. — Prisoner pleaded not guilty, — The piisoner was discharged. Broaching Cargo. — Daniel Clarke was char ed by James McKenzie with having broached cargo on board the schooner 'Herald,' by stealing a bottle of gin, value os. — He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to pay the value of the property stolen, with costs of Court. Wrongful Appropriation. — Peter Scott was charged by Lieutenant George Fox, of the surveying schooner 'Edith,' with having unlawfully in his possession one revolver, five pair of stockings, and # quantity of worsted, the property of the Colonial Government ; total value, £7 19s 6d. He pleaded guilty to taking them out of the vessel, but not with the intei tion of keeping them.— George Fox, lieutenant on board the surveying schooner 'Edith,' and at present in charge of the Staff, said : Prisoner was cook on board the 'Edith.' He wa9 lately transferred from the 'Edith' to the p.s. ' Sburt. ' On Saturday last I found a revolver had been in the gun-room missing. I j had prisoner's bag searched, and in it I found the revolver now produced. It is the property of her Majesty's Colonial Government, and part of the stores of the 'Edith." It i 3 worth £7 10s. I also saw five pair of stockings taken from his bag, now produced, together with a quantity of worsted ; their value would be from Bs. to 10s. These articles also were part of the stores of the 'Edith.' — Prisoner now pleaded guilty without a reservation, and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour, and the proper by to be restored to the Government. Habitual Drunkenness. — Jane Kelly was charged with a breach of the Vagrant Act by being a habitual drunkard, and not appearing when called.— Sergeant McCaffevty proved the service of the summons upon accused, when a warrant was ordered to issu for her apprehension. The Court then rose.
