THE CUTTER HERO.
The cutter Hero was sighted by the s.b. Luna off Cape Maria Van Diem^n on the 29th April, and communication vi as held between the two vessels in a bay a few miles south of Cape Van Diemen. in which they anchored on the forenoon of the same day. The only passenger on board, Mr. JS'azer, was taken on board the Luna. The Hero left IS orfolk Island on the evening of the 20th ultimo, and experienced K.N E. winds until the 27th. ■when the wind suddenly chopped round to the B.E. On the morning of the 28th the Hero was hove to in aM.i' .gale, in the midst of which she spoke the p.s. Luna. At the time the Hero was sighted, she had completely run down her reckoning, Captain TTrquhart Laving been four days unable to take an altitude. The compias on board was also so very light as to vary as much as six points in bad weather. A French war steamer left New Caledonia on the 18th.
