THE VOLUNTEERS.

The monthly parade of the Auckland Rifle Volunteer Battalion took place yesterday morning in the square of the Albert Barracks, in the presence of Major and Adjutant Tisdall. Shortly after halfpast six, about 100 members were on the ground. Major Tisdall inspected the arms, &c, and found them clean and in a serviceable condition. Each of the six companies was represented, No. 2, however, having only five members present. The men were divided into three divisions, under the following olliuers :— No. 1, Captain Kowell and Knaiyus Battley and Skinner; No 2, Lieutenants Matthews and Thompson, and Knsign Mahon ; No, 3, Captain Bather, and Ensigns Gatlaud and Hassan. After various movements there was a, feu de j oie. They afterwards formed s-quare, with a fair degree of precision, and a volley was iired. In all ten round* per man were fired, and then the men formed in close column, and were addressed by Major Tisdall. He said he was very well satisfied with the manner in which they hud performed the various movements. The senior officer, Captain Derrom, referred to the financial state of the battalion, and asked the men to select a member from each company to be a representative on a finance commifcte •, the fir-fc meeting of which should be held during the week. About nine o'clock the men were dismissed, after a parade of two hours and a half, which was too long. It is discouraging to the uiemoers to be Itept so much after the usual time after which most of them have to commence work.
