Tt appears that Mr. Long was walking on the beach between Mr. Dacre'y and the Okura river when he saw, on a small flat, the dead body of a man lying on the face at about high-water mark, where it had apparently been cast up by the tide. Mi .Long describe? thebody as apparently that of a sailor, the dress being white trousers, a white- ami-black striped (Jumean &hirt, no rest, a narrow leather belt round the waist, and boots, which Mr. Long thinks were bluchers. From the description, the body is supposed to be that of the mate of the ' Harwell,' cutter, which it will be recollected was wrecked in the Till passage, having missed stays, and drifted on the , rocks. As soon as the information was received by the police, preparations were made by the water-police to proceed to the place immediately, to bring np the body to Auckland. Owing however to the boisterous character of the weather, it was not possible to take a boat down the harbour. The body will be bi ought up as soon as the weather moderates.
