PANMURE : MEETING OF RATEPAYERS. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT. ) February 7.

February A MEETINO of the ratepayers of tlie several districts has been held at the Pamnure Hall —chairman, Mr. Kerr, M.P.C.; speakers, Messrs. Cawkwell, Ireland, White, and Gouland. The following resolution was proposed and unanimously carried : —"That this meeting request Mr. Ken*, as one of the representatives of this district, to bring before the Council the great injustice that the settlers in thia district receive in having to maintain, a trunk road from the Harp of Erin to Howick at their own expense, while tolls amounting to upwards of £700 (seven hundred pounds) are annually paid at Newmarket, and £420 for a like period at the Panmure Bridge ; and that the Government be requested to contribute a fair proportion of such tolls to the maintenance of said road."
