LETTER FROM MERE KURU TO JUDGE ROGAN.
A few days ago a letter was received by Judge Rogan, at present presiding over the Native Lands Court, from Mere Kuril, in reference to the Ohinemuri lands which were set down to be heard at the Court. Mere stated that these lands belonged to her, and these people who had got them surveyed clandestinely were not the real owners, but were servants. She asks My. Rogan not to adjudicate upon these lands, as the pvinoipal olaimants could not appeal' before the Court. The letter was signed by Mere Kuru, and "by all the Ngehea." This last word, we may explain, is the Maori equivalent for our phrase, "the weaker vessel," and means that the letter emanates from all the old wives of the tribe. — Advertiser.
