CRICKET MATCH.

We are glad to learn that om local knights of the bat do not intend to peimitthe Squadron to depart without trying their mettle in a friendly match at cricket. On Thursday a chcillenge Aras sent to the cricketeis of the squadron by Mr. Eoes on behalf of the Auckland cricketers. Owing to a miscarriage of the letter no reply was received until yesterday, when the challenge was accepted. A match will therefore take place to-day in the Albert Baracks, wickets being pitched at 10 o'clock. It ia only fair to the Squadron to mention that the eleven which will play on its behalf today is not their strongest, but another match, will in all probability take place next week, in which the best men on either side will take part. We would suggest that a first - rate match, should be arranged for next week, and that, if possible, steps should be taken to make the affair specially attractive. It would not be amiss, at the same time, to include in the programme a dinner in the evening. Colonel .Elliot has kindly given the Albert Barracks square for the match today. Mr. L. R. James, of the Q C.E., Vic-toria-street, has undertaken to cater on the occasion. The Auckland eleven will be chosen from amongst the following : — Messrs. Pocock, senior ; Pocock, junior ; Bees, Brasaey, Moore, Keleher, Robinson, Magan, Mumford, and Horan ; and Dawaon, Daubeney, and Phillips, 18th R.I.
