REMARKS.

The Great Unknown Goldmiaing Company's ground is situated in the Tararu district, *od comprises an area of 16 aores, forming the principal water frontage to the Te Whaka Block, distant about four miles from Tararu Point, and is better known by the name of the Darkey's Claim. The land in question has been well prospected, and a quantity of goldbearing quartz has been already obtained from the several drives opened in the ground. No. 1 drive, which has b( en worked some 35 feet, has turned out about 40 tons of remarkably good-looking stoue, and hss a reef running across the centre of the drive 13 feat in width. No. 2 also hat a well-defiued leader running in the same direction j and No. 3 is on the higher level, and has the same iudioationi, but not so promineutly developed as on the other drive*, whioh ars on a lower level, One great advantage attending the position of this valuable leasehold is the admirable facilities it commands for landing machinery, store?, &o. , and the amount of water-right secured will be sufficient to drive forty head of stampers, if nectary, should the nature of the working require such an amount of power. The terms offered by the original promoters of this Company, as already set forth, are sufficient to ensure a speedy and successful result, and the fact that the money received for the promoters' shares will be expended in defraying the expense attending tbe formation and working of the Company is of itself a sufficient guarantee of tbe legitimacy of the

investment. Promoters' shares can be obtained from Mr. Cox Wallii, North Shore, Auckland ; and the seoretary, Mr. R, J. Morressy, Prinoeatatreet, Auckland.

I. This Company !s formed for tbe purpoie of pro* Tiding th« meant of lighting the Towns of Shortland and Graham's Town with Gas, and thus supplying a want much felb in both townsjbipt. C. Tbe Direotors have been promised an admirable site for the" proposed works, close to the beaoh, mid* way between the two townships ; where, by running out an inexpensive wharf, the delivery of plant, ooals, &o. f oan be seoured at the very lowest rates. 3. It is reasonable to suppose that, from the unexampled development of this district since its opening as a goldfieid, the pretest detached townships will eventually become one oity.requiring, as it advances in prosperity, all the aid of modern civilisation for the benefit of its inhabitants. 4. Tbe Direotors therefore propose raising a larger capital tban would suffice for the supply of Gas to tbe present population, in order that they may be enabled to meet the iaoreased demand caused by increasing oonaumeri, B. Ia addition to tbe largo income which may be reasonably expected from the supply of Gas to business houses, a further souroe of profit may be expected from publio lights, whioh will most likely be ereoted as soon as a supply of Gas oan be relied on. The tale of coke will also, it ie presumed, be v«ry large, that fuel being so well adapted for steam purposes, FOKM OF APPLICATION. TO TKX DIREOTORS O? THE THAMES GAS COMPANY (LIMITED).
