In the House of Ttepresentatives, on Thursday, August 20, Mi Kelly moved that the House go into oommitteo to con fcider of an address to his Excellency the Governor, praying him to submit for appropriation such sum as he may deem to bo necessaiy foi tho pui pose of malting advances by way o' loan to the Patea and Wmtolara settleis, to enable them to re-occupy their faims; such advances to be secured by a moitga«e on the property of those settlers who nwi avail themselves of the privilege. — Mr Travers suppoited tho resolution. The sch°mo, if earned out, would fiee the colony fiom the claims for compensation which vexed the House — Mr Runny thought the pioposition was, a manly aud stra'ghtfonvard one —Mr. H S Hainson was glad to hear of any scheme that would supersede tho miseiable claims for compensation — Tho Hon the Premier said this was an open question with the Government, but .ill its membeis would vote foi the proposition —Mr Fox spoke highly of the couraga and endurance of the Waitotii i settlers, and pointed out the great losses they had sustained.
