PRINCE OF WALES THEATRE.
A,T the above place of amusement last evening the pit and •tails were again well tilled, but there was a very poor show in the dress circlet. We were glad to see that the management had changed the first piece for one of a more entertaining character. Instead ;of " £1,000 >-year," the comedy of " Domi"nique the Deserter" was placed upon the boards, and went off with great success. Mr. Carey, as the Gtntleman in Black, played with his usual ability, but the cast was one not calculated to bring out any extraordinary features in an actor. As is generally the 1 case with that popular comedian, Mr. !J. , P. Hydes, be was intensely funny, and was greeted with roars of laughter every time he opened his mouth. The other characters in the pitce were pretty well sustained on the whole, but we noticed here and there a forgetfulness of the text on the part of one or two of the actors. The pantomime followed, and was, as on former occasions, received with evident signs of delight by the auditnce. Miss Gordon was in capital voice, and rendered some of the songs incidental to the parb she was playing with much grace and sweetrjess. In the harlequinade the usual amount of local hi f s were made, and elicited frequent bursts of merriment. The younger portion of the audience seemed to enjoy the entertainment immensely. To-night is announced asj the last night but two of the pantomime, and it will therefore be well for those who hive not yet witnessed it to do so at once. We have been requested to state that while the pantomime lasts there will be no first piece, but that the pantomime will be the whole evening's entertainment, and will commence at 8 o'clock. This will accord with the views of many heads of families, who will thus have an opportunity of taking their children to see this great Christmas treat without being compelled to keep them out late, as the*-per-formanco will be over shortly after 10 o'clock.
