HIGHWAY ROBBERY.

Information was receiyed by the police oa Thursday that a man named William Woolt y had been violently asiaulted the same afternoon on the Mount Eden Boad, and robbed of a sum of £3. It appears that Wooley had been in the company of one Robert Leary in the afternoon, and that they had been drinking together in town, where Wooley had purchased a pig, which Leary agreed to take home for him for eiihteenpence. They were proceeding together along the Mount Eden Road, when the assault and robbery took place. It atemi that Wooley had stooped down by th« side of a hedge to light hia pipe, when Leary sprang upon him, seized him by the throat, forced him to the ground, and lucceeded in getting three £1 notes from his breast-pocket. He then let go his hold, and fled across the mountain. Wooley immediately made the facts of the cue known to the police, who succeeded in tracing Leary, and he wai apprehended in a house in Elliott-street early yeßterday mominsr, by Constablt Martin. At the time of his apprehension he had only Bs. upon him. The prisoner is well known to the police, having been several times in the Stockade. Indeed, we are told that, during the last few years, he has spent more time in prisoa than »ut of it. He will be brought before Mr. Beckham this morniag.
