ROYAL ALFRED Y. TAURANGA.
To the Editor of tho Dailt Southern Gross. Sir, — Passengers from the Thames last night were unusually privileged in witnessing or assisting in an interesting race. _ The Tauranga and Royal Alfred, in friendly rivalry, may experience something of the stem joy that warriors feel in foes who are worthy of their iteel, as they are both a credit to Auckland; bat which is the fastest boat has been an open question sine* the late improvements to the Tauranga. Last evening the Tauranga got a good start, leaving eleven minute* before the Royal Alfred, and loudly challenged a race. This was accepted, and the re*alt exceeded the expectations of moat, for within on ionr the Koyal Alfred paised her rival and fairly walked away from her, thai proving that in speed as In accommodation she is unequalled on. the line Your, Ac, A Passkngbb.
