PROVINCIAL OFFICIALS AND THE ELECTORS.

Thkbe bai been considerable mendacity exhibited by a portion of the Auckland press with reference to the conduct in the Hou.se of the majority of the Auckland members during the session. This has gone so far that the correspondence from this placa ' has become notorious for the utter absence of any thing approaching truth ; in fact, truth has bean "conspicuous for its absence." It is not necessary, where the facts are known, for us to take up our columns with discussion on the matter. The parties most concerned were pretty well gibbetted in our last issue, and the respectable portion of the Auckland press is quite alive to the fact that the truth is not in the columns of the paper to which we refer. We to-day publish a report of a meeting called, not at the instance of the constituents of Mr. Kerr, but by the Provincial Goyernmeut, acting through Mr. E. Maclean, the DeputySuperintenrient, who has sold control of nob only the executive affairs of the province, but also its electioneering duties — the real Government is here in. Wellington. The meeting was the result of an advertisement issued by a tool of Mr. Maclean's, named Campbell — the expected result, a requisition to Mr. Kerr to resign his seat— the real effect, a miserable failure. We find from reliable information, both private and public, that the efforts of the provincial faction in Auckland have nt^eily failed in shaking the confidence <>f the people in their r real representAtivei. — New Zealand Advertiser^ October 14.
