A WELLINGTON GOLDFIELD.

The New Zealand Advertiser of the 12th has ' the following :—: — ' ' ; "Ducks' gizzards" have been said to be frequently very fruitful ia the discovery of gold in this locality, but now we hear of the probability of a more extensive "diggings" being developed. Mysterious rumours are rife. Some one had a loa<l of gravel from the beach ; he saw a yellow-coloured atone, in which he was prepared to take his affidavit there was gold ;he took advice cautiously— was instructed confidentially that it was " right" — and then quietly instilled into the minds of enthusiasts that there must be " a leader" whers that gravel came ftom. The result is obvious. From an ea'ly hour yesterday morning until late in the afternoon, droves of expectant "prospectors" we<e seen to pass the Albion Hotel — some "bell-tonpered and armed for the fray," while other*, with mo-tt earnest countenances, thinking of the £5 000 reward, and a " Hunt's claim," trudged innocently along— never, of course, indicating by word or deed that they sought to discover " where that gravel came from." ' Some got bogged— other didn't — bub all sought in vain for the place that " grew this auriferous gravel." We have not heard whether any< of tbe "prospectors" lost themselves in their travels, but we believe a contemporary has been supplied,- with most interesting details of this extraordinary expedition. In the interests of the public we wish they had been successful. ,
