The adjourned mee ing of ratepayers was_ held upon Tuesday last— Mr. John Bmin in the chair. Mr. Coohranh produced the Gazttte defining the boundaries, which were found to be unaltered, when the meeting agreed to proceed to business. The Sbcbetaby read th,3 following repnri :— The total income for tb.3 year aun.uote>i to £18 ss. 7d. , made up ai follows : Balance in band from last yea*. £13 Bs. Id ; arrears of assessment recovered, £5 2s. 61. Total, £18 si. 7d. Iho disbursements amount to £12 16s. Id., leafing a balance in the hftuda of the treasurer amounting to £5 9s. 6 :. There were, however, liabilities to the amouut of £13 14t. 6d. Although the ratepayers at last annual meeting had voted a rate, the trustee* had been unable to collect it, as a year had to elapse before tbe last Highway* Act could be br night iuto operation in this dwtrict, the Provincial Government having failed to fulfil their promise to amend the clause which rendered it unworkable. On th» motion of Mr. Thorp, the report was adopted. The auditors read their report for the year, which was approved of. The next busineis for the meeting in the usual routine would have been the election of trustees and the levying of a rate, but grave doubts were entertained as to the legality of the adjournment that had taken place. On the motion of Mr. Thobp, it -was agreed to recommend five ratepayers to his Honor the Superintendent for appointment, uoder the 13th clause of the Act. The following gentlemen were approved of by the meeting : — Messrs. Cochrane, Hoye, Goulding, Bell, and Walker. If tbe Superintendent complied with the request of the meeting, the trustees appointed were requested to levy a rate by valuation, the amount being three farthings in the p >und. The gentlemen nominated for trustees agreed to this. After a vote of thanks to the the chairman, the meeting dispersed.
