SUBSCRIPTION BALL.
Last, evening * grand private subscription ball took place at the new Music flail, Symonds-3treet, at which about 160 ladies and gentlemen were present, consisting of > the rank and fashion of the city of Auckland. The splendid band of the 18th Royal Irish was present,, and under the oonductorship of its talented leaderj'Mr. Quinn, went through a most excellent prbgr*mtne. The hall w«l gaily decorated with" flags of different nations ;• and the ball passed off- with ' great tsuooess. A large number of military a'nd naval offiaen were present, and the scene throughout the evening was one of the most .gay and animating^ description. Messrs. James Russell* J.'Stockley,' A lfred • Sheath, Owen JonesJ and Lieut- Cornish>acted as stewards, and the success of the whole affair is hr a great measure to'^be attributed to the arrangements made by them: Refreshments were served out in the course of the evening, andtsupper took place ?at 12 o'clock $ after which dancing recommenced, and was kept up with great spirit 'tinttf nearly daylight.
