DEATH OF MR. RICHARD RIDINGS.

Wfl have to record the removal by death of another old- and greatly esteemed colonist, in the person of Mr. Riohard Ridings, who expired at his residence, Upper Symonde-street, yesterday morning, after a few months' illness. The deceased gentleman was in his 60th year, and had been a resident in Auckland for the past 23 years. Mr. Ridiogs arrived in ,thh city in 1845, and, after holding for some time a responsible position in the Auckland Post-office, joined his brother-in-law, Mr. Connell, in the business of auctioneers and coinmibsion agents. .From his energetic habits and close application to business, Mr. Ridings was enabled to retire iv 1865, with'a well-earned and honoured competency ; his successors being Messrs. Ridiogs and JDowden. At the time of bis death Mr! Hidings held office at a director of th« Bank of Htw Zealand and a director of the New^Zealand Insurance Company ; he had also acted in the capacity of a trustee of the Auckland Saving- B*nk, was a member for some years of the Provincial Council, and a member of the City B ard in its ea-ly existence. The announcement of Mr. Ridings' s demise, when made known in town, was received with profound sorrow. The Bank of New Zealand was closed at noon, and various ■hops an<r places of business were partly closed, Mr. Ridings leaves a widow, but no family.
