HASTINGS. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) July 8.
The British Claim ha 3 had 12dwt. of stuff crushed at Shortlaud ; the yield was 2oz, 17dwt. of gold, and was but a teßt of one of tkeir large leaders, but byno means the richest. I am creditably informed that one man can get out about a ton of this per diem, which, at this rate, will pay very well. The shareholders appear quite satisfied with this prospect. The Golden Horn Claim is still turning out large quantities of fine-looking stone. The leader upon which they are now working has not as yet joined the main reef; the direction has altered a little to the right, so as almost to run parallel to it. Several small leaders are constantly found running into it. The stuff is being got out much more easily now than formerly, on account of the great breadth of the leader. There has been no test made as to the probable yield of the stone in this claim, but the ■hareholders are quite satisfied that it will yield a large return. There have been no shares sold in this claim.
