AUCTION SALES.

A Government land sale was held on the 2nd, at Messrs. S. Cochtaneand Son's Land Mart, .Fort-street. The schedule comprised allotments in the town of Onehunga, suburban lots in the parish of Puni, and allotments in Parnell, suburbs of Auckland. The attendance was not very large, and only one lot was disposed of, viz., lot 106, Parnell, having a frontage to Mechanics' Bay Road of 50 feet, upset price £50,' which was sold to Mr. Richards for £50 10s. Messrs. Lewis Brothers held a large sale of groceries, wines, &c, on the 3rd, at their stores, Queenstreet. The attendance was large, and the following quotations were realised '—Congou tea, half-chests, Melrose, Is 7£d to Is B£d, in bond ; orange pekoe, Melrose, in bond, 2s 5d to 2s 8d ; cases Whybrow's half-pints salad oil, 8s to 8s 3d ; ditto pints, 12s to 13s ; cases Horas half-pints castor oil, 7s 6d ; ditto pints, 95. ; ditto quarter-pints, 5s 6d ; cases Colmans mustard, 6s 6d ; tarfcaric acid, 2s 2d per lb.; cream of tartar, Is 4d ; barrels currants, 4^d per lb, ; cases sardines, J, 5s 3d ; chocolate, Is 4d ; Taylors cocoa, la 4{d ; split peas, 3d ; cases bottled fruits, Morton's, 14s j quarter-casks Champion's vinegar, 2s 8d ; boxes tobacco, 12 to lib., 13s to 14s, in bond ; cigars, per 1,000, £7 15s ; Hennessy's pale brandy, quarter-casks, 8s 4d ; Martell's, ditto, dark brandy, 7s 9d, in bond ; cases Morice's beer, 9a ; quarter-casks old torn, 3s, in bond. Mr. S. Jones held on the sfch an extenrivesale of tea, sugar, rice, coffee, &c, ex • Waverley from China, by order of the importers, Messrs. Cruickshank, Smart, and Co., at the Brunswick Buildings. The sale was the largest that has been held in Auckland for a considerable time, and comprised 44 parcels of I the best brands, which have been specially imported I for the beneßt of the Auckland market. As might have been expected the attendance was very large,and the prices as a whole were good. The following are the quotations :— Lots 1 to 15, consisting of white crystals, brought from 4d 1-16 to 4£d; lots 16, 17, and 18, yellow crystals, ranged from B|d to 3d 15-16, in bo.nd ; lots 19 to 23, consisting of Indramayoe table rice, brought £29 5s per ton, duty paid ; lots 24 to 27, West India and Java coffee, in bond, fetched 9£d; lot 28, black pepper, in bond, 4Jd ; lot 29, white pepper, in bond,. 12f d ; lot 30, nutmegs, la 9|d ; lota 32 to 35, chests oongou, in bond, from Is 5d to Is lOd ; lots 36 to 40, halfchests, in bond, from 1« 5d to 2s 3d ; lots 41 to 44, boxes congou, from Is 8d to 2s 3d per lb. ; lot 31 comprised 150 rolls of white-and-red and white Chinese matting, and was sold at lid per yard. Messrs. S. Cochrane and Son sold on the 10th, at their mart, Fort-street, by orderof the General Government agent, the barges, steamer, boats, &c, lately used in the Waikato transport. The following vessels were disposed of :— * Koheroa,' hulk (iron), £7 ; 'White Slave,' bulk (wood), £6 10s; • Alexandra,' barge, £54 ; • Cambridge,' barge, £6 • ' Wobagon,' barge, £2; and « Waikato,' barge, £2; diagonal boats, from £45 to £50 ; small boats, from £1 12s 6d to £4 15s each. The iron steamer ' Rangatira was not sold. Two hundred acres in the Waikato near Cambridge were sold for 7s 9d per acre. „ Messrs. E. and H. Isaacs held a sale of tobacco, oats, &c, on the 10th, at their stores, Queen-street. The attendance of the trade was good, and the following prices were realised : — Tobacco, Is Id to Is lOd per lb.; castor oil, 7s 3d per dozen ; tea, 2s 3£dper lb. ; ■almon, 14s 6d ; oats, 3s per bushel ; oatmeal, 3£d per lb. Other goods sold at fair prices. The plant Jtnd materiel of the Otea Mining Company were sold on the 20th by S. Cochrane and Son, at their stores, Fort-street. There was a large attendance and brisk competition. The engines, &c, with a great portion of the heavy plant, were sold in one lot for £800 to Captain Ninnis. Bar iron, 9s per cwt. ; steel, 5d per lb. ; tram wagons, 60s each ; anvils, 32s 6d ; bellows, 100s ; brass wire grating, Bd,per foot ; hammers and sledges, 2d and 3d per lb. A large variety of tools and materials brought fair prices, the terms being cash. A whaleboat Drought £13, and 220 acrei at Waiwera sold for > 2s 6d per acre. Mr. A. Buckland offered a quantity of Peruvian guano for sale on the 14th, at the Haymarket,' but only 1 ton was dispoied of, whioh realised £14. Mr. S. Jones held a tale of breadstuff's, ex ' Lady Don,' from Christchurch, on the 16 th, at the Brunswick Buildings, Queen-street. The sale was well attended, and the following quotations were realised : — Fine , silk-dressed flour (sacks, 2001b.), £16 15s per ton; ditto bags, 1001b., £17 19s 6d to £18 7s 5d per ton ; seed oats, 3s 4d to 3s 5d per bushel. : S. Cochrane and Son sold on the 16tb, at their matt, Fort-street, colonial cheese, s£d and 6d ; Engliih cheese, 9£d ; hams, damaged, 6±d and 9£d ; bacon, damaged, 84d and 9<l ; ' Waverley tea, 355 ; pearl barley, second class, ljgd ; butter, old, 54d and s|d; Tamaki butter, B£d and 9d; old port, 20s, 21s, and 225. - Mr. Jones held a sale of wines, spirits, &c, on the 18tb, at the Brunswick Buildings, and obtained the following quotations: — Hennessy's caie pale brandy, 29s 3d ; Martell's, 28s 6d ; old Jamaica rum, 3s 9d (in botfd); old port, i-casks, 5s 2d (in bond); Bwhop's ginger wine, 5s 2d ; sherry, 25s 6d per dozen: CozzenV sherry (3-diamond), 30s; Schweppe'a soda water, 3s 8d j MqEwen'B stout, ■ oaaks (in bond), 8i 6d.

S. Coohrane and Son sold, on the 23rd, at their mart, Fort-street :— Sherry wine (in bond), in J-oask, three-diamond, 4s ; ditto, Y.P., 6s per gallon ; Lowndes's rum, 10 0.p., withdrawn at 3«; two-gr«pe old porb, in -casks, 5s 9d; old port, in cases, 91s per dozen ; sheiry, in cases, 30s ; and one lot of sherry (in bond), in 4s per gallon. Neuf* chatel, in dozen cases, passed at 12s per dozen. Messrs. Lewis Brothers held an extensive trade sale of drapery, clothing, &c, ex 'Maori' and • Novelty ' from London, on the 26th, at their stores, Queen-street. The attendance was very large, and the bidding brisk. The following are the quotations :— Ladies' fancy-striped and self-odour merino hose, 10s to I7s per dozen; gentlemen's merino striped and ribbed half-hose, 10s to 22s per dozen ; men's Shetland half-hose, 14s ; ditto blue knitted half-hose, 14s 6d ; black lustres, lO^d to Is 8d per yard ; silk check winceys, lid to Is 2d per yard ; Aberdeen -winceys, Is 2d to Is 4d per yard j 30-inch plain winceys, Is 2d ; 24-inch plain winceys, Is to 1« 2d ; French merinoes, 2s 6d to 2s 8d per yard ; scarlet Saxony flannel, Is lOd to 2s 4d per y*rd ; *nti-rheumatic flannel, Is lOd to 2s 2d ; 68-inch heavy grey calico, Is 2d to Is 6d ; prints, 6£d to 7d ; 72-inch heavy prey calico, Is 6d per yard ; cotton bed tickings, 6Jd to lOd j Crimean shirts, 5s to 8s 6d eachj heavy tweed trousers, 19s each ; mole trousers, 6s 6d to 8s 3d. Mr. Jones held a trade sale of teas, &c. ,Os the 27th, at the Brunswiok Buildings, Queen-street. The sale was well attended, and the bidding spirited < The following quotations were realised :— Teas, ex 'Eliza Corry,' embracing souchong, congou, and orange pekoe, from Is 9d to 2s 04d per lb.; supenor congou, half-ohests, 2s 3d to 2s 6d ; sugar, crystals, 3fd to 3id; St. Nicholas tobacco, B£d to lOd. Messrs. E. and H. Isaacs held a large trade sale of drapery, clothing, &c, on the 31st, at their stores. The goods were of a seasonable description, just having been landed, ex * Empress,' from London, and consequently fetched satisfactory prices. The following are the quotations :— Woollen-lined waterproof coats, trousers, and vests, from 9s to 12s ; Indiarubber coats, trousers, and jackets, 20s ; white blankets (9-4), from 18s 6d to 255 ; 10-4, superior blanket?, 265 ; genitan blankets (9-4 and 10-4), 14s to 18s 6d ; tweed and doe trousers and vests, from 5s to 12s ; Crimean shirts, 60s to 90s per dozen; gala plaids and plain winceys, Is 3d per yard ; hosiery, 10s to 16s per dozen ; mole trousers, 6s 9d each ; American drills and ticking, 6|d per yard ; shepherd's plaid and fancy flannels, Is 6d to 2s 4d per yard ; cotton military and Shetland halfhose, 11s 6d to 15s per dozen ; cloth caps, 30s to 365.
